There are many after effects of gestational diabetes that many women do not know or consider. One of these is the increased risk of having gestational diabetes again for future pregnancies. Each gestational diabetes pregnancy increases the likelihood that you will have it again in subsequent pregnancies. The risk of having gestational diabetes again in a future pregnancy is roughly 50-65%.
Of course, other risk factors can increase this risk. Those risk factors include age, race, weight, the weight of your baby at birth, and how well your insulin levels were controlled.
